What is a dental crown?

A tooth crown is a cosmetic dentistry restoration that is used to repair a tooth that has been damaged to the extent that a filling or veneer will no longer be able to correct it.

Unlike a filling that fits within the cavity of a tooth or a veneer that is bonded to the outer surface of a tooth, a dental crown covers the entire visible portion of a tooth like a cap.

There are three different types of crowns:

The tooh crown process usually takes a few different visits to Dr. Alhadef's cosmetic dentistry studio. During the first visit, Dr. Alhadef will reshape your tooth so that the crown can fit over it without looking unnatural. This requires local anesthetic.

After the tooth has been reshaped, a mold is taken of the tooth and sent to a master technician so that your dental crown can be custom made. This process usually takes about two weeks, and while the custom dental crown is being created, you will be provided with a temporary crown so that you can eat and speak naturally.

After the crown has been created, it is sent back to Dr. Alhadef's studio, and you will be able to return so that it can be permanently bonded to your tooth. Bonding the crown to your tooth is performed with special dental cement that is placed between your tooth and the crown, once in place, a special light is used to cure the cement, bonding the crown to your tooth.

The price of a dental crown varies between patients. Depending on where the crown is being placed, the number of crowns being placed, and the material of the crown, the cost of your crown may be between $1000 and $1500 per crown.
