What is a dental bridge?

Dental bridges are false teeth, or pontics, that are fused to two porcelain crowns. A dental bridges is used to replace a missing tooth, filling the gap a missing tooth creates.

A missing tooth can cause many different dental problems, including gum disease and tooth drift. By filling the missing tooth’s space, a dental bridge can prevent or at least reduce many of those problems.

A dental bridge can increase confidence and can even make you happier because you will no longer be embarrassed of missing a tooth in your smile.

Who is a dental bridge candidate?

A dental bridge is a wonderful solution for anyone that is missing a tooth or multiple teeth next to each other.

By filling the space left by a missing tooth, a dental bridge can reduce the risk of gum disease, tooth decay, tooth drift, and other problems caused by missing a tooth.

What is the process for attaching a bridge?

By filling the space left by a missing tooth, a dental bridge can reduce the risk of gum disease, tooth decay, tooth drift, and other problems caused by missing a tooth.

Attaching a bridge is a process that is usually completed in just two short appointments.

During the first appointment, cosmetic dentist, Dr. Alhadef will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap to receive dental crowns. This is done using local anesthetic so that you are completely comfortable. Once the teeth have been prepared a mold is taken of the two teeth and the gap. This mold is then sent to a master technician where your dental bridge will be created. Temporary crowns will then be placed while the bridge is being created.

It takes about two weeks for the dental bridge to be created. When it is finished, Dr. Alhadef will invite you back to his Dallas, Texas cosmetic dentistry studio. He will remove the temporary crowns and permanently bond your dental bridge in place.

What types of dental bridges are there?

Dental bridges come in three different varieties:

Traditional Fixed Bridge
A traditional fixed bridge cannot be removed. The bridge is bonded to two crowns that are affixed to the teeth on either side of the gap. A traditional fixed bridge can be used for one or more missing teeth.

Resin Bonded Bridges
Resin bonded bridges are usually used on the front teeth. With this type of bridge, the replacement tooth is attached to metal bands that are then bonded to the surrounding teeth. This eliminates the need for crowns. Resin bonded bridges are usually placed on healthy teeth with few or no fillings and they are less expensive than traditional fixed bridges.

Cantilever Bridges
Cantilever bridges are primarily used on front teeth. Unlike other types of dental bridges, cantilever bridges are to one neighboring tooth.

The goal of placing a dental bridge is to fill the gap caused by a missing tooth with a natural-looking replacement tooth. Your dental bridge will be color-matched to the shade of your teeth so that you have a seamless smile.

In order to ensure that you receive the most natural-looking results possible, it is important that you select an experienced cosmetic dentist like Dr. Alhadef.
